in english - in het nederlands - en français Ladies and Gentlemen, Welcome behind the big red curtain, where we invite you to discover the dreamlike universe of what could be the Belgian revelation of the year. My little cheap dictaphone is first of all the solo project of a so called Redboy, age 22, who sings and plays guitar, bass guitar, rhythm machine, sampler and other toys…. He's however assisted by a touch of drunken saloon piano, minimalistic drums, fairy cords and northern American guitars and pedal steel. At the end of the year 2000, he produces a first - pink - demo album, 'Listening is sexy'. The press reaction is quite hot, and provokes a prolific 2001: the 'dictaphone' figures at support act for Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Sophia, Kiss My Jazz and other Zop Hopop. The summer full of festivals is crowned with a 2.000 people gig at the Dour Festival. And here goes the media: RTBF, Canal+, Javas, Cyber Café,… After intense recording sessions in Belgium and in the States from October 2001 to January 2002, Redboy just a first real studio album. It is a musical drama in fourteen surrealistic (it's Belgian…) acts, oscillating between a kubrickian futurism and late forties horror movies… under the leadership of the American Magician of Oz, Mike Mogis ('Bright Eyes', 'Lullaby for the Working Class', 'Ohia', so as well 'I went down' by Sharko). The sound performed by My little cheap dictaphone is first of all based on integer emotions, mixing a carefully done Pop-Music in the style of Flaming Lips, Radiohead or Pinback with a possessed Indie-Rock done the way of PJ Harvey and Sparklehorse. It also figures crazy rhythm machines and an acoustic and sometimes rough folk sensibility close to Black Heart Procession, Neil Young or Tom Waits. The epic of the trio will begin in March 2002, when 'Music Drama' will be released, followed by a Benelux and France Tour, where we invite you to discover the very personal and almost theatralic scenic atmosphere.
